EJAF, with branches in the United States and the United Kingdom, has partnered with the Clinton Foundation’s HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) in support of a variety of projects in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Caribbean over the past several years. The united efforts have yielded significant results. In the Caribbean, this includes a savings in the Bahamas and Trinidad of more than $1.5 million on the cost of antiretroviral drugs in 2008-2009 as well as 40 percent savings in the Bahamas on DNA PCR and viral load test kits.
CHAI’s cost savings efforts in the Caribbean have centered on increasing access to high-quality generic products. The initiative has worked with national governments to increase awareness of generic products, supported generic suppliers in securing local product registration, and worked with national governments to strengthen forecasting and supply chain management practices.
Since its founding in 1992, Sir Elton’s foundation has raised over $150 million for its work in 55 countries. An Enduring Vision benefits the efforts of EJAF’s United States branch to continue funding innovative HIV prevention, stigma reduction, and service programs in the Americas and the Caribbean, especially to regions and populations that have been critically underserved, marginalized, or ignored.
Sir Elton performed at the event in New York City and CNN anchor Anderson Cooper served as host for the evening.
