NEW YORK - March 5 - In the wake of reports that the Obama administration is considering that Khalid Sheik Mohammed, alleged mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center, be prosecuted in a military tribunal, September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, a national organization of more than 200 relatives of victims of the 9/11 attacks issue the following statement:

"As Americans directly and tragically affected by the 9/11 attacks, we are deeply troubled by the news that the White House is considering reversing Attorney General Holder's decision to hold the trial of the Khalid Sheik Mohammed in civilian court. The rule of law is the lynch-pin of our way of life, a way of life tens of thousands have died to protect. Civilian trials in federal courts have resulted in hundreds of successful terrorism prosecutions whereas military commissions are an illegitimate system that undermine the rule of law. We call upon the President to restore the rule of law to our democracy."
