Washington D.C.–(ENEWSPF)– White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters today discussions with Democratic leadership included talk of extending unemployment insurance for the long-term unemployed.

Gibbs emphasized that this recession was different than previous lulls in the economy, "I think I’ve said this over the past couple days as we’ve gotten into more of this political discussion, I think there is, rightly so, a great frustration in this country with where we are economically, and understanding the depths of the numbers of jobs that were lost, the length of this recession, what it has meant for people on Main Street, what it has meant for -- what we’ve talked about in this, the types of unemployment range much differently than would in a normal recession. You see this affecting not just lower-skilled workers, but higher-skilled, college-educated workers in a way that we haven’t seen in previous recessions."

Admitting that the President was frustrated over the state of the economy, Gibbs said the President is going to go to Michigan on Thursday and talk about investments that have been made in the Recovery Act that are creating jobs through entirely new industries that we’ve brought to this country.

"We’re going to continue to work, as I talked about a minute ago, on ensuring that we have an extension of unemployment insurance to deal with the long-term unemployed; increased lending to small business. All this stuff is going to take some time because it took us quite a bit of time to get into the economic situation that we’re in today." the press secretary said.

In my opinion, anything past 99 weeks is just ridiculous. Let's face it, if you haven't found a job in almost 2 years of looking every day (doubtful), then you probably aren't going to find one, so then it just becomes another welfare benefit. There is a website for unemployed friends - on there today they are discussing how they are going to buy Christmas gifts this year if the extensions only go to the end of November. Are you kidding me??? They don't plan to have a job by then? Ridiculous.

They know ALL Unemployed needs new Tier 5 or Tiers 5,6 now with the delays for at least one additional year. So get it done!

After this passes -- and it will pass -- we need to make certain we vote for Democrats in November. That's the bottom line. Republicans look out for themselves and their corporate interests, convincing Democrats to go along. Republicans historically trash the economy, and the Dems come in to repair, all the time.

I worked hard for years to make extra payments towards my home that would go directly towards the principle so I am not Upside down in my mortgage..but being unemployed in this market now facing forclosure..then they come up with a plan to make the lenders lower you payments and modify based on the fact that your unemployed...now that rug is completely pulled out from under your feet..Now I call DHS and they say I MAY? qualify for cash assistance because Im a single mom? I MAY? I have no income nor car now...a shut off notices for heat and electric..Sell my home in this market? Two years ago it was worth 245k..only owe 107k on it but couldnt even get enough to walk away and then with NO income where would I go?
When I had the unemployment coming it was 300 a week so 1200 a month..thats my mortgage payment..not the utilities not the car (gone)..not the food..wow I got 40 $ in food stamps to feed me and a 16 year old...no toilet paper allowed tho its not nessessary..wow

Well, people get ready, there’s a train a coming. The republicans are going to have their way. Prevent the benefits from being extended and watch the country tumble. A great political tactic; unfortunately far too many will have to suffer, however they are merely casualties of war, the ultimate war, POLITICS!
It’s imperative that the Obama administration fail! At all cost! Masses take this one for the team. And if the masses are starving, the next phase is riot and uprising. If we have learned nothing else, history has at least taught us that. Bravo republicans! You are great patriots! We will show that Obama!

While they sit with their pockets full of money that most of us can only dream of making yearly we look toward loosing our homes, no money for food and debts that we can't pay. I had to tell my landlord today that I did not get my unemployment this week and his response was not that he cared but "well, pay two weeks next week or you are out of a place to live". He cares about as much as congress, which is zero. There are no jobs and living in our car might be our only answer unless something changes. I will remember the names of those who are against this bill when election time rolls around. For now I wait for another knock on the door or the evection notice, so sad, where is the America we are to be so proud of?

America needs to wake-up! Those who currently have jobs may soon be joining the unemployed. No one from the outside will ever understand today's unemployment situation until it happens to them. America is losing jobs at an alarming rate due to outsourcing mainly because of the U.S. Free Trade. Some say the trade will create new jobs but..when? Where are the jobs? The Free Trade is about Foreign Greed and our Government's failure to look out for America's interest. Think of America as a pizza. Other Countries are eating your slice (Job).

LOOK UP THE NET WORTH OF EACH REPUBLICAN THAT HAS VOTED NO TO EXTEND UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS!! THEN LOOK UP THE DEMOCRATS THAT ARE FIGHTING TO HELP THE UNEMPLOYED. YOU WILL FIND THAT THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS VERY VERY RICH. THE DEMOCRATS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FOR THE PEOPLE, NOT BIG BUSINESS. VOTE EACH AND EVERY REPUBLICAN THAT VOTED NO TO UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION, NO ON JOB BILLS, NO ON FINANCIAL REFORM OUT OF OFFICE WHEN THEIR TIME FOR RE-ELECTION IS DUE. IT IS TIME TO START HAVING SENATORS REPRESENT THE HARDWORKING AMERICAN TAX PAYING VOTER THAT MAKE THIS COUNTRY RUN!!! STOP SUPPORTING TEA PARTY KOOKS LIKE SHARRON ANGLE AND RAND PAUL. THESE INDIVIDUALS ONLY DISTRACT US FROM SOLVING THE MESS THAT THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AFTER 8 YEARS OF BUSH GOT US INTO!!!

Some Republicans and Tea Party Candidates state that the unemployed will not take lower paying jobs. The logic is flawed, because I am not hearing any complaints from employers that they can't fill positions. If there were unfilled positions then I would understand cutting off benefits. I worked hard in manufacturing for 28 consecutive years, spent my nights earning an Associates Degree, and have many varied skills. I have read that many of us that are 50+ are having the hardest time finding work. Add me to that list.
