Every year, various community groups volunteer to decorate trees that are located on Cunningham Green in Downtown Park Forest. A special ceremony is held during the first week of December at which the trees are officially lit for the first time. As a rule, Santa Claus makes an appearance at the event and visits with Village youngsters who are on hand.
While the event has been held on early Saturday evenings in the past, this year it will be held on a Friday afternoon. Crafts for kids along with holiday music, refreshments, and pictures with Santa will be available at the Dining-on-the-Green Banquet Hall from 4 to 6 p.m. Attendees then will proceed to the outdoor stage for the tree lighting at approximately 6:30 p.m.
