Senator Kerry Lauds Senate Passage of Health Insurance Reform

WASHINGTON, D.C.--(ENEWSPF)--March 25, 2010.  Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) today released a statement following the U.S. Senate’s final passage of comprehensive national health insurance reform.

“This is called governing. This is why we were sent here and this is what public servants should live to do.  Because of this bill, peoples’ lives are going to be demonstrably, undeniably better. Finally we will have a health care system that puts people ahead of profits,” said Sen. Kerry.

“Generations of Americans have worked for this day.  Ted Kennedy spent his entire career working for this, even in the final weeks of his life.  This really is a big deal.  With these changes, health reform will bend the health care cost curve and reduce the deficit by $143 billion over the next 10 years and by nearly $1.2 trillion over the next twenty years.  Passage of this companion measure would extend health care coverage to 95 percent of all legal residents in America within the next decade.  It expands affordable coverage to 32 million Americans, closes the Medicare Part D doughnut hole, stamps out fraud, waste, and abuse, and makes critical investments in Medicaid programs that help all states.”
