"On Saturday, May 22, Harvey Milk would have turned 80 years old. As San Francisco supervisor, he fought for the rights of all people, and this includes job discrimination protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Today, 32 years after Milk's death, we are still fighting for those same protections at the federal level, as spotlighted this week by the nationwide actions demanding congressional passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. That we are still fighting for such fundamental rights is an outrage, but the example and spirit of Harvey Milk continue to inspire us and others who believe in our common humanity and refuse to accept second-class status. This is the powerful, profound and lasting legacy of Harvey Milk."

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force builds the political power of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community from the ground up. We do this by training activists, organizing broad-based campaigns to defeat anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation, building the organizational capacity of our movement and generating groundbreaking research through our Policy Institute.
